Concrete has its own unique “perfectly imperfect” look and
feel that is very different from any other countertop material.
Additionally, since concrete countertops are not merely cut
from a slab, concrete countertop design has much more flexibility
than traditional materials, which allows for bold, innovative,
one-of-a-kind creativity.
The possibilities are virtually endless. Outlaw Studios can
create sinks, fireplace facades, sculpture, furniture, water
features and many other architectural and art pieces.
Concrete countertops can be the natural gray color of Portland
cement, however, many other beautiful colors are also available.
Custom color mixing can also be performed if a particular color
is desired. Many techniques exist to achieve a very broad range
of color variations and mottling.
Concrete countertops are generally priced in line with the average
price range of granite countertops.
We usually design countertops to be 2 inches thick. We can
make them as thin as 1½ inches and as thick as is practical within
the physical limits of delivery and installation.
We employ lightweight materials to make our proprietary mix
lighter than standard concrete. Our 2” thick countertops actually
weigh slightly less per square foot than the average 1-1/4” thick
granite.
We’ve installed 2 inch thick countertops on everything from
off-the-shelf, inexpensive home center cabinets to 30 year-old
cabinets in good condition to custom cabinetry, all without
additional cabinet reinforcement.
Yes, like granite, we have limitations as to the practical
size of a piece.
The maximum size of an individual piece is dependant on
many factors that are specific to the particular piece.
Some mistakenly have this perception of concrete, but there
is no countertop material impervious to every potential hazard.
Our concrete is reinforced with rebar, just like a sidewalk,
and fibers are added to the mix for additional reinforcement.
It’s not common, however, concrete countertops can get
hairline cracks. When we design our pieces, we use seams
where appropriate to avoid cracking during delivery and
installation. In the rare event that a crack does
appear, it is generally due to shrinkage and not flexing.
Rebar prevents cracks from becoming a structural problem.
Epoxy that has been color matched to the concrete can be
applied to some cracks; others may be too fine to be
filled. Due to the organic nature of concrete, cracks
actually add character and personality to the piece.
You may have heard that concrete countertops can be stained
by foods and other common materials found in the home. Outlaw
Studios has solved this age-old problem! Our concrete is now
stain resistant.
Enjoy easy soap and water cleanup. Forget about maintenance…
reapplication of sealer is no longer necessary. Best of all,
we’ve retained the organic beauty and character that draws
people to our work.
Whether you have a commercial bar or a residential kitchen…
whether you entertain often or love to cook gourmet meals… you
can now enjoy concrete countertops without fear of stains or
time-consuming maintenance.
